Gateway Horizon US 67 Improvement Study

The Gateway Horizon Transportation Study, conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation, is a two-phase study to identify long-range transportation solutions for the US 67 corridor between FM 1382 and the US 287 bypass, involving the cities of Cedar Hill, Midlothian, DeSoto, Ovilla and Grand Prairie, located within Dallas and Ellis Counties. The first phase of this transportation study, a Major Transportation Study (MTS), is intended to specifically define existing and future problems along US 67 in Dallas and Ellis Counties and provide direction for future corridor improvements.

What Is a Major Transportation Study?
A MTS helps communities plan for the future by identifying and recommending transportation solutions to accommodate the future traffic demand on area freeways. As the population within the study area continues to grow, so will the demand for the transportation system. Without this preliminary planning of the transportation system to accommodate the population growth, significant congestion may result. A MTS does not necessarily generate specific, absolute plans, but rather helps pinpoint strategies for enhancing the overall transportation system.

Reasonable alternatives could include enhancements to major streets crossing the US 67 study area (view map - 619k pdf) ,
light rail transit lines, bus park-n-ride lots and routes, bicycle networks, and freeway improvements to accommodate the future transportation demand in the study area. Each US 67 improvement alternative will be evaluated by a variety of criteria which may include social, economic, environmental, hydraulic impacts; traffic management; cost-effectiveness and financing of alternatives/alignments; and compatibility with local, regional, state and national transportation goals. The MTS result will be a set of recommended transportation improvements to accommodate the future transportation demand within the study area.

Following MTS completion in the spring of 2005, the second phase of the transportation study will focus on preliminary design engineering, prior to a final detailed design and eventual (future) project construction.

Keeping you up-to-date on the progress of the Gateway Horizon - US 67 Improvement Study is very important to us. From time to time, we will add information here for you to learn more about this very important transportation project.

Information announcing the next Public Meeting will be included on this Web site in the near future.

We need your input. Public and agency participation is a critical component of the Gateway Horizon project. Your thoughts and concerns about the transportation network will be of valuable assistance. Please share your comments by using the “Comments Form” link located below. Your input is a critical part of this process.

Information about upcoming Public Meetings will be announced in the near future. These announcements will be posted on the project Web site and published in project newsletters and local newspapers. A Gateway Horizon mailer will also be prepared and distributed to area residents and business owners located immediately adjacent to US 67. If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please let us know via our Comments Form.
