Noise Analysis
A noise analysis for The Southern Gateway was prepared
conforming to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Code
of Federal Regulations (CFR) 23, Part 772 and following the
Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) 1996 Noise Guidelines.
The study indicates that the project would result in a traffic
noise impact and the following noise abatement measures were
considered:
- traffic management
- alteration of horizontal and/or vertical alignments
- acquisition of undeveloped property to act as a buffer
zone
- construction of sound walls.
TxDOT proposes to provide noise mitigation by constructing
31 sound walls totaling a length of 3,616 linear feet (6.4
miles), ranging from 12 ft to 14 ft in height and achieving
a 5 decibel reduction or greater for 383 benefited receivers,
Thurgood Marshall Park, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church
and a Dallas Independent School District (DISD) school.

As shown on the typical section diagram above,
the proposed sound walls would be located and constructed
within TxDOT (State of Texas) right-of-way, typically 5 ft
from the right-of-way, and at no expense to property owners.

for noise walls along The Southern Gateway study area. Click

The Southern
Gateway map details the overall IH 35 and US 67 study
limits. The area for US 67 begins at its merge with
IH 35, just north of the Loop 12 intersection, and
continues to Belt Line Road/FM 1382 in Cedar Hill.
IH 35's study area begins at approximately 8th Street,
just north of the Dallas Zoo, and extends to Danieldale
Road, south of the IH 20 interchange, between DeSoto
and Lancaster. |
