How bad is the problem?

The Southern Gateway project is more than simply determining future difficulties in the study area. Traffic problems exist today in the form of accidents and traffic congestion. These traffic problems cost area motorists millions of dollars per year, and that number will continue to rise. Therefore, it is important to work towards developing an overall solution.

Take a look at these recent IH 35E/US 67 traffic statistics:

Traffic Counts D

Accidents Per Year D

Traffic congestion regularly occurs at these locations within the project area:

Morning rush hour:
• US 67 approaching and through the IH 20 interchange
• US 67 approaching the merge with IH 35E
• IH 35E approaching and through the merge with US 67
• IH 35E from the merge with US 67 into downtown Dallas

Evening rush hour:
• IH 35E from just south of downtown Dallas to and through the split with US 67
• IH 35E approaching and through the IH 20 interchange
• US 67 from just south of the split with IH 35E to the IH 20 interchange
